Blu-ray: Riding Super Bowl 2011′s Coattails into the Mainstream
Super Bowl XLV is giving folks more than one reason to get excited, and Blu-ray enthusiasts are at the top of the list! People all over the country are gearing up for the big game on February 6th, and retailers are in middle of the mix handing out huge deals on HDTV and Blu-ray bundles.
Blu-ray is a form of optical media which is quickly outdating the DVD. One Blu-ray disc can hold up to ten times more audio and video – that is roughly 20 hours’ worth of material! And, inadvertently, the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburg Steelers are pushing BD player sales this Super Bowl season!
It is a well-documented fact that the Super Bowl creates a huge spike in television sales across the nation. BIGresearch for the Retail of Advertising and Marketing Association (RAMA) has released survey estimates that 171 million people are looking forward to watching the game this year. 3.4 million of those fans are shopping for new furniture or entertainment center deals. Wal-Mart and Best Buy are taking advantage of the season, and are among the top competitors offering great HDTV/Blu-ray bundles.
Wal-Mart is hosting their sale through February 5th (while supplies last). Football lovers looking for an unforgettable experience can choose the Samsung 46 inch LED HDTV and Blu-ray player for $898! Best Buy is offering consumers the opportunity to purchase a 55 inch LED HDTV, bundled with an Internet connectible Blu-ray player for less than a thousand bucks! They are also offering online shoppers free home delivery for any purchase exceeding $999 through February 2nd.
It is obvious that most Super Bowl folks are investing in these deals for the big screens, but it is translating into the push of Blu-ray into the main stream. After all, getting a new toy sweetens the deal. Nobody is going to have a Blu-ray player without being tempted to check it out. All of those HDTV shoppers are going to start buying BD discs in no time flat. It’s a brilliant plan to get BD players in the consumer’s home which will inevitably lead to future Blu-ray sales!
